Key Code for 99 Toyota 4runner limited

Hello,

I purchased a key (transponder) from ebay. Does anyone know the best way to get the key code. I have an original key, however, I would like more than one key. The dealer wants to charge money to get the code.

If you currently have a programmed master key, why do you need the key code? Just go and have it cut at a locksmith and program it yourself using on board programming. Here is the method.

1. Place an already programmed master key in the keyway. (Do not turn on) (Must be a Master key)

2. Press the Gas pedal 5 times.

3. Press the Brake pedal 6 times.

4. Pull out the key.

5. Insert the new key and DO NOT turn it on.

6. Press the Gas pedal just 1 time and wait until the security light stops blinking, about a minute.

7. Remove the key and Press the Brake pedal 1 time. The cycle is now closed.

The programming mode will end after 10 more seconds.

If all you have is a Valet key (usually has Gray head), the ECU will have to be removed and reflashed to accept new keys. The dealer will tell you it will have to be replaced, but this is not true. If you need it reflashed visit my website for details http://www.hightechcarkeys.com

My new '99 4Runner came with just a Key and no remote. Fortunately with the help of your this thread, I programmed another key. Also bought a remote control on ebay and programmed that too, through this forum. Thanks-a-million, guys!
