Fuel Pump Howl

I Have A 94 Jimmy With 140,000 Miles On It. The Fuel Pump Howls Very Loud. Im Not Sure How Old It Is Or If It Has Ever Been Replaced. Ive Been Told This Is Normal On These Vehicles And Ive Been Told It Needs Replaced By Other People. Any Suggestions?? I Hate To Replace A Good Fuel Pump, But Im Going On A Trip And I Dont Want To Break Down. Thanx For Your Advice!!

Usually the pump won't get too loud if the fuel filter is replaced regularly.

I would definately replace the fuel filter, but as far as how long the pump will last, you can never know - 100 miles; 50,000 miles, - it's hard to tell. As preventative maintainance you could replace the pump, but that would mostly be for peace of mind.

Keep your fingers crossed. Mine howeled for about a year....then it died. Cost me $700 to have it replaced.
