Bah!

ok heres the deal. ive been looking online at summit and jegs and i cant find a non lockup torque converter with a 2200-2400 stall. if anyone would be able to find this online for me let me know. its for a 327 and a 1988 700r4. i dunno if im just not seeing them on the sites or what. i would really appreciate it if someone could find it for me though.

Re: Bah!

You can try
http://www.dpconverters.com/Site-B/B2A.php

You need a non lock up transmission I think.. Or you can get a conversion valve..

But I think I seen one on that site

Re: Bah!

Its a converter conversion valve.. It allows you to put your non-lock up converter into a lock-up transmission.. It corrects the fluid flow

Re: Bah!

The guys at B&M have a kit to control your lock-up, should you use a lock-up converter.. theres an electrical sending unit that goes on the trans, where the speedo cable is hooked up, that monitors vehicle speed (the speedo cable then hooks up to it). There is also a wire that gets spliced into the brake light switch. Then a little panel gets mounted under your dash that has a control switch where you can set the desired speed where the lock-up occurs (between 30 and 90 MPH). There is an led that indicates when the trans is "locked up".

But, Should you choose to use a non-lock up, Ive been told the conversion is very simple.. (compared to doing a shift kit in a TH-350) And if you dont do it, Your tranny will tend to run hot.. (heat is the killer of 9 out of 10 trans'!)

Re: Bah!

well its got the lockup wiring harness on it...i just figured if you wired it up then it was lockup and if you didnt then it was a nonlockup.

Re: Bah!

can anyone explain the difference between lockup and nonlockup and what it does? i have a 91 z with the 700r4, and ive heard that a performance TC can free up some decent power depending on the application..

The advantage of the lock-up is it is more efficient on the highway. When you are in third gear and the RPMs get to a certain level, the distributor triggers the torque converter. This makes the transmission work at a straight 1:1 with no lost power from torque converter slippage. These transmissions are considered to have 3 1/2 gears because of the lock-up.

The down side to the lock-up is the torque converter is not any larger than the non-lock-up version. The clutches take up a lot of space in the converter and so the converter tends to generate more heat. The non lock up is also sposda last a lot longer

Re: Bah!

um....... you mean 4th gear lockup????? at least in the 700R4, although technicly the converter can lockup in any gear but first.
