Question when to shift

I got a 98 civic EX with a cheap air intake. man I love it. when I am just crusing or going to work i'll normally shift anywhere between 35-40 rpm's.
but when i am tryin to get somewhere fast/ racing, I normaly shift at 60.rpm's. iIs that the optimum time to shift or do it sooner or wait till I red line it. My red line is at 70 rpm's.
-trick to racing, know when to stop. its not worth your life or a freinds-
peace

Re: when to shift

find your power band, (the area you have the best power), shift at teh point you dont hit fuel cut and when you hit the clutch you dont drop out of that area. i shift at 8400rpm when racing.

Re: when to shift

fuel cut? not sure really. my stock redline is 8200rpm, and i rev it to about 8400rpm when i race so i assume its near 8500rpm or so. never hit it yet.

Re: when to shift

its pointless taking ur engine huigher than redline. usualywhen u start getting close to redline u start losing power not gaining

Dude, you should go past the redline, keep going round, pass zero again and take it back up to the redline. This way you change gear about 14000 RPM. That's what I do and that's why I'm twice as fast as everyone else on this forum.
