exhaust question
I was reading an exhaust article a couple of threads down and came up with a question. It was beeing said that shorty headers are not worth buying on a 4.6. So here's the question. I've got a 98 gt with a bassani cat back exhaust. I love the way it sounds and don't really want to change it. I was thinking about getting some headers but after reading that I will only get long tubes now. Is it just a matter of cutting the pipes and welding the cats on further back or what? What headaches come with putting LT headers on a pre existing aftermarket exhaust with the stock exhaust manifold?

I would just suggest getting a long tube x/h pipe to replace the stocker.

Cons of LT headers are:
1. The install is usually more effort than shorties but I would argue this if you compare LT vs Equi-shorties on a 4.6. 2. LT headers cost more money. 3. You need to either modify or by a shortened H/X-pipe for to match the LT headers. So if you buy say MAC LT headers with a matching MAC H-pipe for there LT headers. It will all bolt in and bolt right up to your Bassani cat-back no problem at all. No cutting or welding required. I just used MAC as an example same would be true for BBK, Bassani whoever.

I just found something out, It had a bassani x-pipe also, everything rear of the exhaust manifold has been replaced. So doing it now would require modification of the x-pipe huh. could a muffler shop easily do that?

A saw or torch and a mig welder is all it would take.

Is upgrading to long tubes cost efficient compared to the horsepower gain over what I have now?
