ZTT engine swap! why?

I had my 96ztt for about 4months know and it drives great. so far my upgrades are an under drive pulley and the pop charger from JWT. is fast for me but in the future i plan to do and exhaust and chip. but my question is, so far in this forum i read of people wanting to do engine swaps. why would some one try to get rid of their ztt engine a get a diffent engine like and RB or even the 350Z engine. isn't the ZTT engine better since its twin turbo in stock form or am i missing something here. let me know what yall think.

Re: ZTT engine swap! why?

i would never swap a different engine for a vg. i guess people want a bigger engine with the vq and i guess people have seen more rb's with higher horsepower so they think that the rb is better than the vg. but i will stick with my vg.

Re: ZTT engine swap! why?

Mostly its the guys with Non-Turbos...

I almost went RB20DET for my first Zed back when the VG went... I didnt feel like throwing in the fabrication hours. So I just repaired the VG, and sold it.

It still sounds reasonably complicated to swap the NA for the TT, not to mention the car is not original anymore. Surely you can still get good numbers out of an moded NA.

to TT or not TT

Well frankly, no matter what you do to an NA (pulleys, intake, exhaust, chip, nothing too extreme or expensive) and barring supercharging you won't get the numbers that a stock TT does.

Besides with an intake, exhaust and chip a TT can get close to 400 at the crank.

And its a hell of alot less work for the basic TT mods rather then half rebuild your NA.

But whatever...toys are meant to be enjoyed so do what you wish

A modded NA with a good shot of nitrous would be pretty quick.

Re: ZTT engine swap! why?

Twin Turbo is just way too much nut for me... And any other kid in my opinion. I've driven both, and trust me kids... Twin Turbo is WAY too much Horse Power for an under experienced driver.

I love my Non-Turbo, it still moves quick as hell, and insurance doesnt kill me. Perfect car in my opinion.

AAhhh, but there inlies the beauty, if you have a NA ZX like me, then swap it for a turbo, your insurance doesn't go up! As long as you don't tell them.

Some people just have their own preferences.

The RB is available with twin turbos in stock form as well, but it does like to rev more than the VG. Again, some might prefer the revs, feeling that it is more sporty.

The 350Z's VQ V6 is much lighter than the VG. A 300ZX with one would probably have a similar or better power to weight ratio than a stock turbo model, and better handling/weight distribution. The VQ can be boosted as well, and will have a torque advantage due to the extra displacement. A sleeved VQ could probably exceed even a built VG as far as outright power potential goes.

Re: ZTT engine swap! why?

I like the VQ35DE idea.

What else would we expect from VQuick... Straight info, to the point, haha.

I would say swap in RB26DETT, but emissions is where you run into problems.

RB25DET would be PERFECT for a Z32. But VQ's would be a much better weight to power ration.

Pesonally... VQ would be much more effecient, and MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to work on than VG.

In my opinion, of course.

After the countless hours and dollars of custom fab and trial and error of course...and provided none of those custom parts break...and nothing in the wiring and programing decides to act up...then it might be easier after that...maybe...

Re: ZTT engine swap! why?

Umm... Ok.

It would be no more difficult than an RB into a 240 swap.

It has been done, and without many problems. I like VQ's for their major efficiency plus over the VG's.

VQ's are not that hard to work on... VG's on the other hand... N'uff said.

Anyone who has ever torn down a VG knows how incredibly hard they are to work on.

I think if it came down to it... RB25DET, or VQ35DE would be a tough choice. Personal preference is what it would basically come down to.

Granted, RB's can produce power a lot more easily. But VQ's have much greater low-end, more consistant power.

Just my opinion.
