short shifters
do short shifters effect or damage the transmission at all? i would imagine they didnt but i wanted to make sure. also does anybody know how much they cost and whats a good brand? thanks

Fair warning: I read a review on 3si.org about the short shifter from 3KGTmotorsports.com, so I went ahead and ordered it a few weeks ago and paid with PayPal. I have not heard back from them since and I have sent email and left messages with them, and have not received anything. Has anyone else had experience with this vendor or konw whats up with them?
I'm starting to get concerned and pissed off that I gave them like $150 and have not yet gotten anything back. On the positive side, their short shifter is cheaper than the other one on 3kgtperformance.com, but 3kgtperformance has sent me parts relatively quickly, and are good about sending email and such. Blah, rant, those muther#$%#$%#% better send me my stuff.... Mike

Update - it finally arrived (weird, no tracking number, no emails, nothing... but it arrived) and I installed it pretty quickly and easily. After all is said and done, I think it's a great product, especially coupled with the new leather boot from 3sxperformance.com. I still think they should be more responsive as a vendor though.

Sorry to jump in a week after the fact, but did you install it yourself, or get it done somewhere? If you paid to have it put in, how much did it cost? If you did it yourself, got any tips?

I installed it myself - I didn't have internet access at the time (cable modem was blown) but I had read the article Igovert linked to above and it was pretty straightforward. It is starting to feel weird now, though, so I may open it back up and see what's goin on.
On a side note, I ordered a new shift knob from 3sxperformance and man does it feel nice compared to the old, worn one. The texture and feel of it makes a big difference in the feel of the car... kinda funny but true.

I have heard from many people on 3si to stay away from the 3kgt shortshifter because it is a cheaper product and it isnt built nearly as tough or well. A lot of people have posted that they have had problems with it and everyone recommends the more expensive but much better 3SX short shifter. Either way they are both easy installs, also to fully maximize the feel of a shortshifter, I would get DSM shifter bearings as well for your stock cable shifters. The DSM bearings are all brass compared to the 3000GT's rubber bearings. Get the under the hood shifter bearings and the shifter plate bearings(located right under the boot and next to the actual shifter) With all this done, your sloppy cable shifter will feel damn good and basically have no play in it at all but still retain all of its smoothness.
