Nitrous Question, Fellas...

Okay-okay-okay! I know some of you don't like this topic... and I, like some of you, once thought that nitrous was retarded. I have now begun to appreciate it, however...

I plan on getting a 70shot NOS dry nitrous system (suppossed to work off at WOT) for my Lead-sled-Zed. I have never worked with nitrous in any of my cars!! I know some, but very little about the technical aspects!

I have been told that I will need bigger injectors and an upgraded ECU and stock internals is no prob with such a small shot. I have also been told otherwise: A few people I spoke with told me I will not need injectors or ECU upgrade and I can run a 70shot stock! I'm assuming if this is true that it would be better to upgrade my injectors and ECU anyway???

Also: what size injectors shall I get??? What are the stock size on the NA's? Will I need to upgrade my Fuel pump?

Questions-questions-questions! Please feel free to leave some input or ideas about a good set-up!

i had this almost identical question. i am pretty sure the stock injectors are only 259cc or really close to there. so for upgrading injectors, im pretty sure your gonna want the TT's or higher because i think those are rated at 370cc.
I had this same question because i really really dont even want to give my engine the chance to blow on me. especially with z32's being a farely rare car. plus the money factor. but on the other hand i do want a lot more horsepower in my N/A.
any information on nos in z32 N/A's would be a alot of help.

Re: Nitrous Question, Fellas...

Go NISMO 550cc injectors (or if you wanna spend some money... Go the NISMO/Border 1200cc full system) and get a JWT ECU/M upgrade.

70shot isnt bad if you ask me... Run with it man!

I am against unpractical nitrous use... 70shot seem's fine to me.

550'S AREN'T OVERKILL? How will that affect my car's performance??? JWT ECU? I never fully understood why I need to upgrade my ECU... will buying the NOS kit from STILLEN (whom claim this kit is made specifically for the Z32) work okay with a JWT ECU (I heard JWT's stuff is waaaaaay better than STILLEN's...)? I really wish I could speak to a Z Tech. God about this... I talked to some guy at STILLEN and he was a complete moron!

Yeah... 70shot is as high as wanna go! I only want to reach that 300HP mark!

Re: Nitrous Question, Fellas...

Woah what the hell did you just say????

You've lost me man. Injectors are just there to handle excessive, or SUDDEN (as in nitrous application) horsepower... Upgraded injectors are a MUST in my opinion.

You may be able to get away with using the stock Twin Turbo injectors as well.

Re: Nitrous Question, Fellas...

This kinda falls into the "better safe than sorry" category...you might be able to pull it off with stock injectors, but you don't wanna push it. The ECU should be upgraded so the fuel map is changed to work with the nitrous so you don't run lean or rich...lean...detonation...bad...rich...dirty...ba d. Good luck, man.

Re: Nitrous Question, Fellas...

one thing I dont understand is why you are getting a dry kit and upgrading the fuel system to compensate. Couldn't you just get a wet kit instead?

Re: Nitrous Question, Fellas...

The upgraded fuel system is there to accomidate for excessive, or sudden power... Such as nitrous.

It's there to feed the engine the more fuel.

You know...I realized that I was kinda unclear about how some areas of the whole Nitrous thing worked. I did a search and uncovered a page that was specifically intended for Nitrous applications to the Miata, but it has TOOOOOOONS of info that works fine for us, too. Read these pages, and it will answer every question you could ever have about nitrous and then some.

Here's the link.

Fun fact: if you injected pure oxegen into your engine, you're cylinder head would enter orbit. Thank God for nitrogen.

A dry kit is supossed to be safer and ideal for my set-up (70Shot only...). I could be wrong... that is why I'm asking questions....

Re: Nitrous Question, Fellas...

IMO a wet kit is safer but dont take my word for it.

Re: Nitrous Question, Fellas...

A dry kit can cause major problems when you floor it at low RMPs because you're dumping your 70 shot (or whatever amount) into a cylinder that has less fuel and air then it would when you are at higher RPM. A wet kit can be can be set up to go in stages depending on engine speed, throttle placement, etc eliminating this problem. Go wet.
