Paint question

I have to paint the bumper of my 95 intergra. The color code is R81.The bodyshop will use Akzo Nobel. IS this a good brand? One of my friend told me the original paint is from PPG.So I call a ppg dealer but they told me R81 is a tricoat color( and they actually have two R81 , R81C and R81S).So I have to use two different base coats. Anybody have any idea about this tri-color?( the bodyshop told me my car is definitely not tri-color) Which R81 shoud I go for ?( it is a straight R81 on the driver's door) Thanks.

Re: Paint question

yes akzo nobel, or sikkens is a good brand of paint. Tri-coat paint is called a three stage. First a basecolor is put down, then a tinted clear (candy) or pearl coat, then clear coat. The more coats of candy put on, the darker the color will be. Candy lets the base color show through somewhat, so the car can get different effects when the sun hits it depending on what color the base and what color the candy. Three stage paint is harder to match and a bit harder to spray then just basecoat clearcoat.

Thank you so much for the reply. But can anyone let me know if this R81 on my 95 acura is indeed tri-coat or it will be fine to do 2 stage with akzo nobel.
