Ugh.. what happened? Remember when the Beastie Boys rapped about smoking in the bathroom, White Castle, and piracy (the eye patch type)? Those frat boy ethics made the Beastie Boys one of the flyest rap groups, just about the only hip-hop group I listened to.
On June 15th, To the 5 Boroughs comes out, the first Beastie Boys album to feature the 'parental advisory' sticker for language. A Beastie Boys album with a language warning? Odd. What do you expect with a track title like 'Hey Fcuk You'? Alright, first track: Ch-Check It Out. I'm sure a number of you have seen the music video, it looks like Old School Beastie Boys enough. However, the f-bomb gets dropped a number of times, in places that could go without. Anyways.. next song, Right Right Now Now. Somethings wrong here. The samples aren't quirky or weird, they're like every other rap song out there.. Alright, whatever. The vocals are still heavily old school Beastie Boys. 3 The Hard Way. Somethings DEFIENTLY wrong here. MCA always had a 'scruffy' voice, but he sounds totally gangster rap here. I thought at first a gangster rapper was guesting on the song. Man, whats wrong with this album? Rhyme the Rhyme Well, back to old school vocals. Phew. However, the samples are still heavily mainstream.. I think thats enough individual reviews. This trend continues throughout the entire album, TT5B is one of the Beastie's most mainstream efforts. I sure hope this is an experiment, I miss the frat boy rhymes that busted from Licensed to Ill and the space rock beats from Hello Nasty. TT5B is just like every other rap album out there, and the Beasties are known for pioneering in sounds from way out. Beastie Boys - To The 5 Boroughs (6/15/04) **/*****

Beastie Boys suck. They never experiement with their sound. It's always the same exact megaphone sound with them 'rapping' at the same pace to the same beat that's just mixed with a little twist. The guys need to give up, retire, and realize they died out in the 90's.

Re: Music: To the 5 Boroughs
^Ouch. I love some of their old stuff. (Paul's Boutique for example.) This new one...I don't think I like it at all.

Sabatoge(sp?) kicked ass but other than that I'm not really into them.
I prefer Rage against the Machine.

Ugh they grew up? They're in their forties or can you not count that high, and they isn't a very long list of rappers that can be that old and still put out good albums. Do you think 'Lil Johns gonna still be selling records when he's their age. Yeah, maybe outta the trunk of his once decked out in chrome, but now delapidated Caddy.

Re: Music: To the 5 Boroughs
The new album is great(once you get used to it) as were all the rest they had. You cant diss them they have covered every aspect of music in there years of rapping. The new album does lack instruments and also intrumentals which i found not pleasing. But besides that track 1-2-3-6-7-9 are deffinitly kick ass tracks. I am not for there political views they throw in there songs but they have been doing that for awhile. Did you see them on MTV's 2$ buill tour last week they were on point very good, and played all there old shit.
