I'm lookin at this GReddy cat-back system...it says for 1995-96 Maxima SE. I have a '96 GXE, will there be a conflict? If so, where can I get a good catback system for my GXE.
My exhaust set-up as of now is (hopefully) ~ GReddy Cat-back system ~ Cattman Steel Y-Pipe I'm also throwing in a Cattman CAI Intake as well.. Is there anything else I need? Any suggestions? Comments? How much will this affect horsepower and what not? I appreciate it guys, I'm pretty confused right now =( Last edited by Fuster Cluck; 06-13-2004 at 07:45 PM. |

Re: GReddy Catback Systems/Exhaust setups!!
It'll work fine with your GXE; my SP2 bolted to my GXE without a problem. You'll see, maybe, 5hp; catback is more for people who want to squeeze every ounce of power out of a NA motor.

Do you know of anything that I can get for a little bit more horsepower without spending thousands a' dollars? How much help is the intake?
And I hear that if you just get the intake itself, the engine actually runs hotter because air flow is increased, giving the engine more air and less fuel....fucking it up somehow...I dunno, some toolhead told me that...is it true? Sorry for all the questions,...I'm just a lonely bastard that wants a fast car =) |

1. technosquare upgraded ecu - group deal price is 380 but from what i hear there could be no more group deals. there is one presently in the works but not to many people have signed aboard, they need 20. Regular price is 595, it is worth it but maybe out of your price range. Their upgraded ecu knocked off .2 at the dragway
2. Tires/Rims - if you still have the stock tires and rims, take one off and put it some some scales to see what kinda weight each tire/rim weighs. then shop around for some used/new affordable wheels to replace what you have. This can make a HUGE impact on performance freeing up lots of power. with my 97 my stock wheel/tire combo weighed in around 40 lbs each, my aftermarket rims and tires weighed 32 lbs each. Which shaved off a .3 at the dragway. Also remember you dont need to go up in wheel size, if you have 15's just stay with 15's for performance. A good light/cheap wheel is the rota subzero. A set of subzeros in 15's will run you 450 dollars with free shipping at http://www.machiii.net/wheels/rota_subzero.html and if you are already using 15 inch tires you will not have that added expense. they also weigh 12.5 lbs per rim, if i remember correctly on my 97 our stock 5 spokes in 16 weigh 19-20 lbs per rim. If you are real serious about performance and you have stock 16's or stock 15's on your maxima, and you see that you can cut some weight off here, out of the 2 things i have mentioned this is where i would start, especially if you already had 15's you dont have to spend money on tires, but you could also do the same with 16's if you have 16's.

Re: GReddy Catback Systems/Exhaust setups!!
You could also do the DR mod which doesn't cost much and will cut .1 or so off your time (If I recall Jime correctly). I'm contemplating make these in sets of five (custom L bracket and switch mounted, you just have to clip your wire and install it) but only if I had at least five orders.

Re: GReddy Catback Systems/Exhaust setups!!
i've read that when you do the drop resistor mod your overall ride quality goes to shit because the car always shifts as if it's in full throttle mode.

All exhaust systems are just noise basically. You'll see about 5HP on any system, don't expect too much more than that. Like Chariot said, wheels is a good place to start, I am thinking about getting some 17" Rota Subzeros. DR mod sounds like a charm as well, as long as you get the WOT switch and a tranny cooler. I will be doing this in a few weeks. |

Re: GReddy Catback Systems/Exhaust setups!!
Thanks for the help guys....Yeah about the ECU, I was readin in some spots it was just referred to as a "performance chip"..."Only 50 bucks!! Shave .5 off your 1/4!!"..I could kinda tell they were feedin me bullshit though.
The Rota's are pretty nice too, I think i'll get those in 17's, rather than these... http://www.discountedwheelwarehouse....ShowLarge=True ... I'd have to get new tires for 17's though. On that Mach III site, what tires would I need? I have an idea, but I'm not positive. I'm tryin to find somethin a little cheaper tire-wise too.. And whats WOT stand for anyways? How much is the DR mod? About the intake, should I use the weapon R....or the Cattman CAI? Last edited by Fuster Cluck; 06-13-2004 at 07:44 PM. |

i don't know about the DR mod. my philosophy is that if you want your car for speed you should get a 5 speed, especially in a nissan, their auto trannies are shit when compared to that of a toyota or acura, and can't hold a candle to the german cars. Quote:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...75&postcount=2 if you look at the graph provided you'll see that the Weapon R makes more hp than all other Warm Air Intakes and at least as much as some of the cold air intakes and more in some cases.

Re: GReddy Catback Systems/Exhaust setups!!
DR mod w/ a NC switch will cause the transmission to run full line pressure only at WOT; at WOT, there's less pressure than when at partial throttle.
