newbie Q's...
Hey guys, i recently purchased a rebuilt NA 13B extend port turbo series engine powered series 2 RX7 with new carbie, new 5 speed, new clutch, New brakes, New suspension, new paint job etc...wonderful car. I followed the drive in procedure religously and the car has about 10,000 kms (ermm...6,000 miles???) on the new engine now and is running beautifully.
I just had a couple of questions 1. What would be the best warming up procedure for my car. Usually i start it up and let it run for about half a minute at around 2000 revs then let it run for another half minute or so at 1000 revs then drive away shifting under 3,000 until its warmed up. Sound okay? i hear thats impoprtant for engine longetivity. Should i do anything different? 2. And this is kinda embarrassing. THis car is my first manual vehicle. And i have no idea about how to get it off the line in a hurry. I can still beat most things at the lights by driving it off the line then sinking the throttle, but whenever i try and launch it off the line the engine just seems to bog down, without any power. ANyone wanna share some tips in regards to good pedal technique? Thanks for any help. Gibbsy. |

Re: newbie Q's...
Ok the rotery engines have no probelm warming up because the engines get a lot hotter then pistons. just rev the engine at about 3000 rpm for about 15-20 seconds and you should be fine.

Re: newbie Q's...
also to sart off fast you want to rev the engine to about 5-6 thousand then quckly pop the clutch the tires will spin and make for a dramatic start off. but do this wrong alot of times and you might need to replace the clutch.

ya man just rev it, then take your foot off the clutch realy fast. I do huge burnouts in my 92 horse power civic, you can do it in a rx

Re: newbie Q's...
Or, you can rev to about 4k, and slip the clutch. The reason you are bogging, is because you are reving too low and dropping the clutch. Just go easy on the clutch (aka-slip) starting out. And once you get that down, become a little more aggresive and rev higher, and drop it faster.

Re: newbie Q's...
Do exactly like you said in #1. That's how you should let it warm up.
As for #2, just keep driving. Soon you will be off the line in a hurry and not even realize how you got to that point!

Re: newbie Q's...
yea the stock clutch pretty much blows, any stage 1 clutch will handle it, but if you plan on doing a lot with the car then I'd get a really good clutch and flywheel

Re: newbie Q's...
Triumph!! lol. I jumped off the line against a fast and the furious wannabe subaru WRX yesterday. Got a car length ahead off the line, but then he went on boost and blew right by me. Fun though. I need a turbo.
