Turn signals inoperable/Gas gauge/more problems

Hi everyone,
I reviewed everything I could find on this site about bad turn signals. I have a 2000 Jimmy and they have been intermittently working/not working since Nov. 2001. I have had this car into the dealer 10 times since 2001, 5times since the beginning of this year ('04). The multi-function switch has been replaced at least 5 times and the hazard switch carrier was replaced at least 3 times. Two visits ago, they cleaned and tightened all connectors and grounds and bulk head connectors. And the signals still do not work! The service techs can't seem to find the problem. When the turn signals do not work, the hazards and brake lights also do not work. Sometimes if I toggle the hazard switch, or the steering column adjust, the signals will come on.
I have also had an unusually large number of other problems with the car recently, I wonder if any of them are related. This past weekend, while the turn signals were not working at all, the power door locks began to click on and off by themselves and the horn went off by itself about 5 times. The car went into the dealer again this morning, and after keeping the car all day long, they were not able to duplicate either of the problems.
The gas gauge does not read correctly when it gets below 1/2 tank. Mechanic said it was the sending unit, but advised against replacing it(expensive job) because it would also require the fuel pump being replaced and warranty company would not approve because there is nothing wrong with the fuel tank. Three months ago I had to replace the water pump, thermostat and gasket and some belts and hoses. Two months before that I had to replace the right front wheel bearing and hub assesmbly, and the upper and lower ball joints. Two weeks earlier, the transmission went (torque converter failure) and had to be rebuilt. Back in Jan 2000, there was a window motor internal short. There seems to be a lot of electrical issues with this car.
Does anybody have any information that might help with the turn signal issue? My car is due for inspection this month and I just know that as soon as I get into that inspection line the turn signals will stop working.

My gas gauge jumps when I use the trun signals. The jumping is more pornounced when the tank is full.....any ideas...I have already changed the sending until and fuel pump assembly

I have no idea! My gas gauge jumps around when the tank gets down to about 1/4 full, and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the turn signals in my case. Most of the time, my turn signals don't work.

My 2000 Jimmy has a similar issue with the fuel gauge. At about 1/2 of full, the gauge is no longer reliable, and I have to watch milage.

Sending unit and fuel pump? Dang, sounds expensive for something so minor.

The voltage regulator option makes sense.....I will suggest to my mechanic

Replacing the sending unit and pump is expensive, and not worth it according to a mechanic I spoke with. In my case, my extended warranty won't cover all of the charges because the problem is with the sending unit, and if you replace the sending unit, you also have to replace the fuel pump, which is what they won't cover.

had the same problem the problem was back at the tank $576.00 later it is fixed. Keep using mileage.

I had a similar problem on a 2000 Bravada. Gauges didn't seem to work and even threw some trans codes from time to time. The mechanic at my local GM garage said it could be the ignition switch. He found this to be the culprit on other SUV with similar problems. I ended up changing it out myself, since I knew the mechanic, and that was indeed the problem. It's been over a year and the gauges are still working.
