Talking Anyone good at or like football?(I need help understanding lingo:P)

I'm starting to play football and I have no clue what the quarterback is saying. In the huddle he'll say something like "40'blahblah-somethingsomething'fade-out" or something similar to that...I have no clue about plays and how they work and all the lingo to understand what a QB is saying. Can anyone help me out? I dont' know when he's gonna give it to a running back or throw it, or if he's gonna fake, or what. I'm completely out in the cold on this, really need to learn and couldn't find anything in a search. What's a fade-out? I can't even remember most of the stuff he said, usually a number in there, then he'd say something like "left-hinge". I know there's probably tons of football fans here that know this stuff Any help would be appreciated.

I'm a receiver by the way, I'm think I'm an "out" receiver but I don't even really know what that means either heh

Wait, let me get this straight...

You play football, on a team, and when the QB tells you to do something you don't know what he's telling you to do???

OH my...

Re: Anyone good at or like football?(I need help understanding lingo:P)

wow, you're screwed, lol

well, I play football for high school, and our plays are called by numbers

the QB will say 246

the 2 stands for the line set (i.e. where the tight end goes), the 4 stands for the play, the 6 stands for the whole in the line that the play is going. a number 8 would be wide right. number 9 would be wide left, outside of the corner. even numbers are always to the right, odds are always to the left. well, that's our football. yours might be different, dunno?

Yeah I noticed, seen this one b4, i think at AF in general, newbie welcoming but eh, I see so many...

Well, hopefully you run really fast so you you need to know is to run fast, understand "go long" or short, how to dodge people, and how to catch.

But yeah, numbers normally have their own meaning for a play and where to go but if this is like practice or something, tryouts/or the thiing b4 that, i forgte the term...then he might just actin' cool. If not, i'll pray for you...good luck

if you guys are screwing around in this dude's backyard, don't worry about it. just run fast, jump high, catch well. touchdown.

once you actually make the team, you will receive a playbook which will outline everything you need

If you make the team, they'll explain to you all this. You'll learn it when they make plays, tell you the what the # is of the play and where people go.

To practice for football, train like plain' in a friends back yard or something, but add the realism of fakes, handoffs, blitz, stuff like that ya know. That's all, or go ask the coach

Re: Anyone good at or like football?(I need help understanding lingo:P)

read FireBball972 first post in this thread, he basicly told u everything, and thats how we do it also, in numbers, and I dont know about ur HS, but have you guys done spring football? if so..they will teach you there, and when you go on the huddle, and the QB is saying the play, let him finish, then when he says "go" (or any other word that u guys use to go to ur spot) yell "CHECK" and your coach will come and tell you where to go and run. Well thats how we do it..I dont know about your school, but just try it, and another thing you can do is go after practise or after weight trainning and ask ur coach if you guys can go over the plays. Man dont be afraid to ask questions, the coach wont yell at you if you do a mistake, he will only yell at you if you make the same mistake that the guy in front of you did while u were spacing off in wonderland, get me? and by the way im a lineman.

PS: what HS you go to? JV or Varsity level are you playing in?
