My 91 Tracker has the 1.6L with about 163K on it. A couple of months ago I was coming home from work and pulled into my driveway when I got out and noticed that it was bleeding oil all over the place. I thought that the front crank bearing was shot so I pulled the engine. Upon inspection it looks like the oil pump is actually the faulty component. Now I'm trying to break loose the front timing sproket bolt but am having problems also holding the flywheel with a crowbar against the transmission mount. Since the engine is on my garage floor and moving all over the place, I was wondering if anyone has some trick to immobilizing the flywheel so I can break that bolt loose.

go to your local auto parts store and pick up a flywheel holding tool , you might even be able to rent one

Re: 91 Tracker engine problem
Thanks. After posting the question I was checking out the manual (chiltons) and saw the holding tool. It was then when I realized what a dumb @ss I was for not looking at the manual in the first place.
Thanks for your input. |

I also had a question about the 1.6L. In another thread someone wrote about swapping out a Suzuki Swift twin cam head with the stock head on the 1.6L. I wondered if anyone has ever done this and had any information on the timing belt routing or if there are any other issues with swapping them out. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
