Replace outside passenger door handle
I bought a new passenger side outside front door handle to replace a broken one. I've had the inside door panel off and it's not clear to me how to remove the broken handle. Any suggestions?

Re: Replace outside passenger door handle
Hi, I am referencing my '96 shop manual. From the inside with the trim off, disconnect the door latch actuator from the door handle. Then, prop the handle, from the outside, up to the full open position. This will give you access, from the inside, to two blind rivets. You need to drill them out to remove the handle, then replace in reverse order. I know, sounds easier than it is. I was disappointed when doing some window work lately to see how many things are riveted in there. Makes R&R difficult.

Thanks. Does the manual say how to disconnect the door latch actuator from the door handle. It looks like the rod goes right through the handle and then bends 90 degrees downward so I'm not sure how to disconnect it? Also, thank you for confirming that I need to drill out the rivets.

It doesn't say directly. Simply to disconnect it. Trace the actuator along and you may find a point that offers an easy disconnect, then you can thread it out of the handle. |
