Dana Identification

My 1988 XJ has a factory trailer hitch installed, so evidently it has the towing package. From what I've gathered, the towing package came with either a Dana 44 or Dana 35 rear - How do I tell what rear end I have tucked under the rear of my XJ?

TIA!

Re: Dana Identification

towing package or not an 88 should have a 35 but you can make sure by checking the tag on the rear of the pumpkin which is usally covered in dirt it will say 35 or 44

Re: Dana Identification

I have an 88 Cherokee Pioneer w/the towing package and it has a Dana 35. The Dana 44 option was only available in 1987. Guaranteed you have a 35.
