Question 1995 GTP Will not crank. Have power to accessories

My son has a 1995 GTP 3.4. He drove it to work. When he was going to leave the engine would not crank. He said that the "Security" light had been coming on. We tried the spare set of keys thinking that something happened to the chip in the key but it still would not crank. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Brian

Look at the key does it say something like "PK" on it...if it doesnt you probally dont have a chip in the key, nor does your car require one.
I have found that many People think they have the GM PassKey system in their car and they do not

I would check your Battery....Crank Sensor, Plugs, wires, and the above comments

Re: 1995 GTP Will not crank. Have power to accessories

If your car is a 95 and has the DOHC 3.4 engine definetly is the battery. My Z-34 sometimes before installing the 120amps alternator would work the radio, lights, horn and will not cranck the starter. At this day I do not know why these cars(the ones equiped with the 3.4 DOHC engine) drain the battery just being parked. I have somewhat healed the problem just disconnecting the aftermarket alarm the car had. Does your car has an aftermarket alarm or a amplifies sound system that could be draining your battery?

My '94 SE did that... and the older keys, you can see the chip in them. Well, actually, it's a resistor, but anyway, it's below the head of the key, very visible. Anyhow, my security light stayed on, and the car wouldn't start. My dad found out it was the jumper harness, a bit of wiring up under the steering column. Cost about $1 to make another one, but it took a while to put together. I'd check that first.
