need help - newb

Hello, I'm really a newb when it comes to audio. I bought a deh-6500 off ebay. I had a deh-2500 that was only 2 months old. They both had the same harness. When I connected the new cd player, everything looked great, and it looks like it's playing a cd, but there is no sound. I made sure all the speakers are connected right. Even when I switch to "tuner", the station is on, but there is no sound. I tried the new harness and I got the same result. The seller says that the cd player should be working.

I have 2 6x9s and 2 6.5s. I have no amps or subs. Could it be that the cd player is set for an amp or something, and I have to change the options?

Like I said, I'm really a newb when it comes to this, so any help would be appreciated!

it sells for $200 - 300 so im sure it has an amp. I had an older one in there before, same brand, and that one had an amp. You think there could be a switch on the back? I'll check it out later, thanx

Re: need help - newb

check in the manual if you got one about turning the built in amp on thru menus while the cd player is on, but not set to play anything. That's what mine does at least.

oh so you think that's what it could be?

It was pioneers top units a few years ago. So I absolutely need an amp to get this cd player to work? Why does the wiring harness have wires for the speakers then? Shouldn't the speaker wires come from the amp instead of the cd player? If it has a fuse, does that mean it has a built in amp?
