Honda Pilot Oil change question
My mom just got a a new pilot, fully loaded and its bad ass, anyways, she and I always have arguments about when to change the oil and what not, however since she got this new car, she swears up and down that the salesman and the owners manual say NOT to change the oil for the first time untill 4,800 miles.....Ive always been told that with new engines you need to change it at 1K miles...is there any truth to this or was the salesman just pulling stuff out of his ass?? the car as of now has like 800 miles on it.
Thanks |

Re: Honda Pilot Oil change question
When I worked for Honda we suggested first oil change at 3k or a little after. There are special break-in oils that need to be in there for a while. Older cars you would want to change it before 1k for first oil time. Contact the service department, not the saleman for technical info.

I would change the oil in the first 1000 miles. Then every 3000 or 3 months which ever comes first.

Re: Re: Honda Pilot Oil change question
Consult the owners manaul, I beleive there is a section about the first oil change. Some thing about the sleeve containing titanium & the break oil has graphite in it to break in the STRONG metal.
