The correct way to brake

Is the proper way to brake slowly and then come to a stop or come real close to the point of stopping and then stopping quickly. Me and my friend had an argument about this, just wanna know what would be the best on the brakes.

Also, despite what is best, how do you brake?

TIA

Re: The correct way to brake

It really depends on how much panel work you need done. I need both front and rear bars fixed at the moment, so I use the 'wait to the last second, lock/release/smoke tyres method'. It's a personal thing.

Re: The correct way to brake

i brake slowly so that if anything happens in front of me i'll have enough time to react and the people behind me wont potentially ram into the ass of my car

Re: The correct way to brake

I brake slowly over a long distance because my brakes are crap and I cant really do the short quick brake.

Brakes...pfft...who needs em'.

Ive heard it's better to brake gradually rather than spasmodically or severely (CarTalk radio show).

Re: The correct way to brake

When I'm crusing on the streets and going with the traffic, I leave a distant in front of me and brake slowly and come to a stop. But if I'm having fun on the road I do some crazy shit such as going reeally fast and then brake at the last minute and let the brakes lock up and scare the shit out of other people driving near me.

Re: The correct way to brake

Depends, if theres someone behind me I go gradual but if I'm fairly alone then I like the rapid braking.

Re: The correct way to brake

If some one in the car is drinking I will slam on the brakes, or if someone is sleeping. Otherwise I easily slow the car....then gun it.

I never brake hard if someone is drinking something...they might spill

Re: The correct way to brake

For me it's clutch, shift into second, release clutch, wait a second then apply pressure to the brakes if needed. To stop quickly it's stomp on the brakes and yank up on the e-brake holding down the release button and hope your able to slide around what ever is in front of you.

I'd rather replace brake pads before a clutch, but then again that's just me. I always stop gradually so if needed I can stop quickly.

I had my brakes go out on me and I have never trusted my brakes since.

Well...you see...

Lets say i'm cruising main street at about 55, and I all the sudden see a cop, instead of braking i just push my clutch in and downshift to 1st

...or if that doesn work i shift into reverse...
