Roller Rocker rumors

I have heard rumors of a roller rocker setup under development. Does anyone know the status of this setup?

Are you talking about a roller rocker engine because the 2k+ models have these, or are you talking about cams for the roller rocker engines in which case I have heard that JWT is still working on the R&D for that.

I am talking about a roller rocker setup for earlier sr20de's.

I haven't heard of anything... but if you are really looking into it, i'm sure you could buy a newer motor and swap it in, if you wanted the roller rockers, but i'm not sure it would be cost effective. You could most likely spend your money on a different mod and gain more power and torque (what the rollers are really supposed to help with, i thought) than the swap, for quite a bit less money.

hopefully i don't screw this up....

The roller rocker motors are basically just a motor with different rocker arms, lifters, and cams (right?) instead of a conventional rocker arm, like the older sr20's had, the newer motors have rockers arms with a "roller" on them that contacts the cam, and has less friction, cause the roller will roll against the cam rather than use oil to lubricate the two parts. Supposed to free up a little bit of power by the reduction of friction in the motor?

I have heard that the roller rockers are not able to take as high rpm as normal rockers.

Is that correct!?

Speculation:

That could be due to the added inertia of the extra mass of the roller rockers themselves. The extra momentum of the extra rocker mass might be enough to overpower the valve springs at high rpm (which would mean that the roller loses contact with the cam lobe on the closing ramp before crashing back down on the lobe). Stronger valve springs might help - but then they may also add to the inertia.
