Adding 3rd pair of Speakers to '04 EXT

Hey there...

I tried searching, but I didn't see any hits on this.

I'd like to find out how difficult it would be to add a 3rd pair of speakers to our new '04 Trailblazer EXT. It has a factory 4-speaker system, and we've added a DVD system. My children are already complaining that they can't hear the radio/TV well enough from the 3rd seat. So, I'm wondering how difficult it might be to add a 3rd pair somewhere around the wheel wells.

Any ideas?

You can talk to a radio specialty shop to see what they rec for you.

You can go to a Circuit City or a Best Buy or even Crutchfield.com & see what they have. You can get some kind of speaker system for the rear of the vehicle. Problem....some of the speakers a a little large & it will take up precious room but not all are large. They sell powered subwoofers that "may" help & that can be small enough to maybe conceal. Otherwise, I have even toyed with this....how about getting a somewhat custom job like I am thinking of? Having the speakers mounted into the rear hatch at the bottom of the door? There has to be enought room for some kind of speakers in there.
Different vehicle, a 2003 Chevy Express van....my brother did it to his van & it sounds & looks great. The place even covered the speakers in a heavy plastic frame & covered that with matching fabric material that doesn't protrude past the door. So it looks like it is flush mounted. that's what gave me the idea. You already have wires running into your rear hatch for the electronics, it's just a matter of splicing into the rear speakers somehow & running the wires on back so they are hidden.


Oh, another thing....I have seen these on E-Bay & I have no idea on how they will work, but the rear hole in the floor where you can hide things. They sell a speaker box that fits right in that hole. All you have to do is to bu ya speaker & put it into the box & then splice it into the rear speakers somehow & whola....more sound. But again, I have no idea if it will even work properly & be durable, but it is a option.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking...

I'm mainly curious if anyone knows how the wires are routed... are there any speaker wires run to the rear of the vehicle at the factory? Or will I need to splice in up by the rear doors and run it back myself...

If I have a chance this weekend, I see if I can pull off some of the panels and determine what the wiring situation is.

As far as I know, you will more than likely have to pslice & run some wires back. Perhaps you can run them with the wires leading into the rear hatch somehow to better hide them? That is, if you put speakers in the rear hatch. Otherwise, your guess is as good as mine. I still haven't brought this option up to my installation shop. I am afraid that once I start, I won't stop
