oil leak

i own a 97 astro with 145,000 and i have a small oil leak between the engine and the transmission some people have told me its the engine main rear seal others the oil pan i will be doing the work to it, has any body had the same problem and know if astros have a leak problem with either the rear seal or the pan gasket just trying to narrow it down thanks for youre input . manny g

I have the same problem. Unfortunately I mentioned it to the mechanic AFTER I had my transmission rebuilt. Seems the rear mail seal is a round (circular) seal that you can install without dropping the oil pan. Bad news is you have to remove the transmission.

When it's the rear main seal the leak is large. You should be able to see the drip constantly. Might want to check how high the oil is coming from. Sometimes it leaks from other places and just follows the slope of the engine and will drip in the middle.

I used an engine cleaner and seal conditioner called Auto-RX that seems to have slowed the seal leak. www.auto-rx.com
