tranny? or rear end?

ok i have yet another problem i was driving this morning and then floored it to speed up well my tranny downshifted then i heard some kind of noise (can;t really remember b/c subs were on too loud) well anyways now my car doesn't go i can still shift the tranny like when i put it in drive the car jerks forward just like it always does but when i give it gas it feels like the car has a wooden block in front of it and wants to move but can't so i dunno if i blew out something in the rear end or the tranny need some help asap!

i think it's most likely your tranny, but jack up the rear end and put the tranny in neutral so you can spin the tires and listen for any noises. spin the drive shaft too. if all is ok, have your trannsmission pressure tested. the 2 slots on the pump drive may have broke off, you may have burnt the drive band or a clutch pack, or broke the direct drive drum. just hard to tell

Re: tranny? or rear end?

when you give it gas, does the engine free spool or is it bogged down, low in rpms like youre standing on the breaks??? cuz your parking brakes may be holding your rear tires.

LOL. im guessing someone is speeking from experiance here? i never even thought of that but im make sence now. that seems like one of those dumb thigns you do and never forget about again. am i right or is that a commen problem?

and yeah, if it is the tranny, more than likely the tranny as oposed to the rear, then its really hard to tell what went out but it kinda sounds like something that has to do with line pressure like stated before. you can have someone test the line pressure for you or buy the guage and do it yourself, its pretty easy. humm, the other thing i just thought of, is it a 700r4? with lockup torque converter? if so it could be your lockup. does it seem to not accelorate as well in all the gears or everything except 1st? something to try, drive your car at a steady pace, maye 60, and just cruse. put the gear selector down into drive so arnt in the oerdrive gear. dont be on the gas alot just enough to maintain 60, and then lightly push the brake peddle with your other foot. only enough to make the lights come on and not to actualy make the brakes touch, just barely. its the lockup is your problem you should feel it almost shift very lightly and if you watch a tach it will come up a couple hundred RPM's. what that will mean if it does that is that your lockup is locking up in 2nd and 3rd gears. it really shouldnt that usualy only for towing stuff. do you know if you have a manual lockup switch, cuz thats what they do is lock up the converter in 2nd and third. if everything is factor then you probably dont but who knows. i think then you would need to replace the plunger inside the trans and that should fix it. wow that was alot of typing, sorry about that.

Re: tranny? or rear end?

well i think your converter is fine, cuz if that was gone, the engine would spool up to high rpms and the car would accelerate slow, but would move. the car locks into gear so the line pressure sounds good. what happens when you floor it????

try putting it in reverse, does that work like normal? ill tell you guys a little story...a few winters ago i had an RS v6, got stuck in the snow, floored it in drive, slammed it right into reverse, floored it, etc. etc. back and forth. i was kinda pissed off but i didnt really care what i was doing to the car, ofcourse eventually something made a bad noise and i had the exact same problem youre describing here. turns out the people i sold it to got it fixed and told me it was a brake lockup problem, but i dont know if thats the truth or they didnt understand the guy, either way i would deffinetly say its the tranny.

Re: tranny? or rear end?

Why dont you take it to a transmission shop and have them look at it?
