98 5.9 Overdrive, need half throttle to kick down,Cat Conver. hot

When doing over 40mph, I need to give my V8 Grand cherokee almost half throttle just for a simple kick down. Transmission shifts perfectly, but the kick down is annoying.

Also my cat is running red hot, wonder if a fried clogged converter causes this also. Thinking about replacing cat.

HI IT SOUNDS LIKE THE CAT. CONVERTER IS HEATING INSIDE IT WILL CONTINUE TILL IT PLUGS UP COMPLETLY. DALE

For your exhaust problem, do what I did, buy a new cat and put on the new cat with some dual flowmaster exhaust. With a 5.9 I wouldn't have anything else. I have a 5.2 and trust me, it sounds sweet just idleing so imagine it going down the road.
