Worth replacing?

On my 96 camry, some of the dash lights are starting to burn out. it's mainly a personal prefrence because it doesn't interfer with driving and I know my console well enough without the light. I'd like to replace some of the lights and I've got 4 weeks between school terms so it seems it would be a good time. The ones that are out are the "D" on the center of the cluster, the lights behind the climate controls and the lights on the shifter between the seats. Are all of these bulbs or are some of them LED's? Is this a difficult task to undertake? (I have my trusty Chilton manual which makes it sound somewhat easy but it doesn't say if it's bulbs or LED's.)

Re: Worth replacing?

There is no need to replace the D on the center of cluster since when u shift to other gear there is square around the letter. For the same reason u don't need the light on the shifter since u can see it on the dash.

As unnecessary as the D light is, I kind of miss it. It looked pretty nice on my dashboard when it still worked.

It's interesting how common this problem is on Toyotas. My mom's Avalon lost it's D light 3 years after she bought it (1995). Mine went away a few years ago... Rest In Peace D light.

Re: Worth replacing?

They are just as simple as the manual describes, they are all bulbs, none are LEDs. I don't know exactly what size bulbs they are since bulb sizes vary through the years, but all you have to do is take them with you to your local auto parts store and have them find one for you, or better yet, get on the little bulb finder computer that's in the electrical/lighting aisle, and it will tell you. ( They put those there for those people who don't want to deal with the auto parts salesperson on their endless search for the "correct" lightbulb. )
