The first thing you need to do is research everything involved in painting a car. There is more to it than just a little sanding and then spraying on the paint. There isn't enough room here to list everything required to do a good paint job as related to skills; type of paint; paint matching; preparation; safety and health concerns; equipment; work area prep, etc., etc. Stop by an automotive paint supply and see what pamphlets or books that they have on the subject. I have only painted one car in my life, and that was a real "learning experience." The first time that I painted it, it had many blunders. After sanding off all of the first paint job (at $75 per gallon), the second paint job came-out looking pretty good. Would I do it over again?....maybe, but it sure was a hassle.
