ion cd player troubles

i have a relativly new 2003 ion-1 ( 8,000 miles). after i bought the car i noticed a steady increase in the number of skips and catches in the cd's i was playing. All of my cd's are in pristine shape, and work on every other cd player i own. I even tried playing a brand new cd, straight from the case and it still skipped several times during the cd. what should I do, and has anyone else had this problem?
