1500 overheating with AC on

Hi All,

I asked this in another thread befor finding this one...anyway,

I am new here and looking for some warm engine help. I have a 89 1500, with new 350 engine, trans, and most everything under the hood including a newly installed AC system (done at dealer) The trouble I am having is with the engine getting hot while sitting at a light or moving slowly. Now the truck has always run at 180 degrees up until the new AC was installed. Now it gets up as high as 230 degrees before I panic and shut it off (AC). I called the dealer and he says no big deal, but if it didn't do it with the old crappy growling AC unit, why now with the new one? Could it be the fan, can I test it somehow? Just a note it is 107 degrees here during the day now, but the truck always ran cool last year.

Thanks in advance, Bill

I had a '93 350 that over heated when I put in an electric fan and took out the stock one. Can you see if your engine driven fan is locking up. You might have a bad fan clutch. Also, and this is just a guess...I over serviced an AC unit once and it caused the compressor to turn very hard. That might cause it to run hot. Good luck with your problem...and by the way...I think your service guy is not being honest with you. Something is wrong.

Howdy Sonny01,

Thanks for the reply. The first AC unit that I got from the dealer was chattering almost as bad as the one I had replaced so I took it back for a warranty replacement and now it overheats the truck. You have me wondering now if that isn't the trouble as I have already replaced the fan clutch and it still does it.

Bill
