Race gone wrong (or rather STUPIDITY gone wrong)... =\

N one try this at home (not that most of you could anyways...) but still this is pure insanity. Click the link below for a truely sad and idiotic story/article:
http://phixion.cjb.net/crazy.htm

This would go right on up at the top with racing in the rain as something to do.

It's sad that people don't understand the safety precautions that MUST go into a project such as the one in the story. Things like chutes, rollcages, and what not. Most of all, knowledge of all the equipment being used at hand.

Already saw that somewhere, but still. It's hard to understand that these people didn't think it was dangerous or that they could die, because of the plane with no wings that they built.
I guess some people are stupid to their death, and they died the way they lived.

that was insane.
I hope nobody here is stupid enough to do that.
That's why you should use your heads before trying anything stupid like that.

Thanks for the clarification, Shaun.

Eitherway, it shows what NOT to do, and still to always take ALL safety precautions into consideration when trying something bold and different.

P.S. It did seem a little far fetched to me. But I thought it was good to post up anyways.

Yes, that was the first winner of the Darwin Award. Oh and BTW to break Mach 1 you would need to be going about 650MPH to break the sound barrier. Just thought I would point that out.

also note, a single JATO would never be able to push him towards mach 1 considering a C-130 fires off 8 just for a quick take-off solution.

I have to agree with Drift here, the JATO on the C-130's isn't to make them faster or supersonic, it's like having NOS on the plane (so-to-speak) to give it extra power so it can take off quicker and on as short as 1500ft of runway space! And aso as stated in the story, they said he maxed out at like 420, last I checked, mach 1 is 650mph @ sea level.

another thing: how did "the people at the lab" figure out what happened? all they could have known was that the JATO was used, and the car that was being used during this instance. im pretty sure this happened, but at the same time, its hard to believe that "the lab people" determined what happened temporally. right?
