Mitsu Lancer Ralliart or Scion tC?

I've been spending the last couple of months researching new cars in the $16,000-$19,000 range and I've narrowed it down to two choices: the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart and the Scion tC. If you were purchasing, which would you go with and why? Here's some stats...

2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart:
162hp, 162 lb-ft of torque, 2.4L MIVEC (like VTEC) 4-cyl
22-29 miles per gallon
Pros: Options I would get include a 6-speaker Infinity stereo with an 8-inch subwoofer in an 8-liter enclosure, sunroof, and the 5-speed manual and shifter from an Evo;good exterior looks; 10-year powertrain warranty; race seats from a Japanese Lancer Evo GTA.
Cons: Cheap-looking interior components, higher price, 16-inch wheels (instead of 17), no overdrive gear, not available in blue, company may not last without DaimlerChrysler's money.

2005 Scion tC:
160hp, 163 lb-ft of torque, 2.4L VVT-i 4-cyl
22-30 miles per gallon
Pros:Tons of standard features for lower prices (includes Pioneer six-speaker stereo, power everything, reclining rear seats, sport bucket seats, etc), all-glass roof with sliding front panel (like a sunroof), 17-inch wheels, Toyota build quality, 3-year bumper-to-bumper warranty.
Cons: Only 2 doors, extra features are dealer-installed and somewhat expensive, limited availability may lead to mark-ups.

This is tough because I like both cars. I think the Scion has the better styling, I like how it looks and the interior looks better too. Still I am not so sure on the performance of the car, I know the Ralliart for the price performes very well. I remember a day when 15.0-15.5 1/4 Mile times were fast for a sub compact, now it's just mid pack, but still that's what the Ralliart runs, and it's handling and braking are just average. So I would go with the Scion.

The tC is better looking...and Lancer is not a performer...rather a pretender...so just go w/the tC

the tC is the only good scion in my opinion. and the only lancer worht getting imo is the evo. so i would also say go with the tc.

scion tC...even though the options are dealer installed and may cost more...they are covered under warrenty...it'd be a nice ride with the optional 19" rims and optional trd shocks and springs

I would go for the scion too. Its not bad looking IMO and it seems like the better car of the two, not to mention that in a recent article testing the ralliart and the se-r sentra they had numerous negative comments about the mitsu's poor chassis.

The only thing that i see as a downside to the tc is its name association with the scion xb(ugliest car on the planet IMO)

Re: Mitsu Lancer Ralliart or Scion tC?

Hmmmmm.......I've read that the standard Lancer chassis is terrible as well, however in some parts of the world, there is a VR-X model that has chassis upgrades and isn't quite as tedious as usual.

that said, I'd still have the Scion.

Re: Re: Mitsu Lancer Ralliart or Scion tC?

I would go with the lancer ralliart. I test drove both cars before I bought the ralliart. The Chassis is excellent by the way and could outhandle the TC. Its also a bit quicker than the TC 0-60 as well. The warranty is awsome 10 year 100k. They also have free 3 years scheduled maintanence. I know its not an evo but not everyone has 30k either. For 18k its one of the best bang for the buck out there.
