Question Front Clunking Noise - Strut Mount?

I've got a 2000 Max that makes a clunking noise (metal on metal) from the front passenger side whenever I go over a bump. More noticable on the smaller bumps. Could this be caused from the top strut mounting brackets? If so, is that very hard to repair/replace for an average garage mechanic?

Thanks

Re: Front Clunking Noise - Strut Mount?

Where is that located? How did you fix it? How much?

I think I know what you are talking about. I had the wheel off this last weekend to take a look around. I greased a few joints and none of the bushings seemed to be cracked. If a bushing is bad can you tell by looking at it?

Re: Front Clunking Noise - Strut Mount?

Actually I took the car to the dealership and the diagnosis was a bad strut. They replaced the strut, strut bearing, and strut bushings. Total for parts and labor were ~$650.

Lucky for me my extended warranty covered everything. Which now I'm glad I bought - Just purchased the car 2 weeks ago. Bought the warranty from the same company whom inspected the vehicle before I purchased it.
