yes you can run an msd on stock components, all you gotta do is hook up the msd to your stock coil, but it would be easier to get a external cap.

i also heard that you dont need an msd ignition, well only just the coil, the box is not needed, or so i heard

Re: Msd

so i dont really need an external coil right? right now i have an internal coil so if i do get the box then i gotta open up my distributor right? So i should be able to run it on my stock ignition components. Anyway.. does anyone kno if this stuff is hard to install?

Re: Msd

based on your question in regaurds to installation. I think it would depend on your skill and even if you've never done it before or anything in relation to car/audio wiring but you've done other froms of wiring then you'll be ok. IF not, but you seem to be tech minded then you should be able to perform the operation, just get a book on your car and study the diagrams and learn about what wires on your car does what and why. then you'll be able to follow the instructions / diagram that comes with the msd setup you obtain. I took a look at a couple of diagrams off their site and it seem easy to install. you just have to take the time to understand what you're doing. good luck.

Yes, you can run MSD box with stock stuff. But I wouldn't recommend it in the long run. The stock coil will fry out earlier, and with stock restrictive ignition wires, coil, you won't get all the potential energy.

I would run it on stock just for a short term, until you have money for external coil and wires.

Also installing is easy, just hook up some wires and thats it. Here's some install pics: http://www.overboost.com/story.asp?id=265

first off, you dont even need the msd box, just get the external coil.

and the plug wires arent restrictive, do you know people run 500+ whp on stock oem honda wire ? do you know those same people run stock honda dists only with an external coil ? if you didnt know, well now you do know
