Hi,
Can someone who has a VR4 1995 or later look at their Glove Box. Mine will not open, (the lock is broken), I need advice on the best way to remove it. Sometimes looking inside helps.... I have two option (I think) 1. Drill out the lock, then buy new one. 2. Cut the metal Hook that the lock locks into. I can see the top portion of the hook, and am thinking of using a hacksaw blade to cut it. Then I hope I can replace that. So can someone look at their car and tell me what looks better. Maybe the hook is not very replacable after I cut it ? Please help ASAP I need to get in to get my unlock code for the stereo its in the glove box...I have 1995 VR4. Thanks a million. |

When mine seized up some time ago, the locksmith basically drilled it out so it could be opened. He then jury-rigged up the latch system so it could be opened and closed by sliding a lever.

mine has a problem where its just a bitch to open and you basically have to grab the 2 sides of it and jiggle it around until it'll finally get loose, doesn't bother me much though seeing as i expected some minor imperfections in an older 93 model

Mine doesn't even lock... I only have one key, the ignition key, is there a seperate key for the glove box lock?
Sorry, don't mean to jack the thread..

Ok, For all that might need the answer.
I ended up hack sawing the "Striker" - this is the hook inside the glove box that the lock would catch on. In any case I sawed that in half and thus opened the box. Striker is a $3 part so I thought that was a good deal at first. Note even though the handle for the glove box is on the left the actual lock is in the middle. I took just the blade and it slid in between the dash and the glove box ... There is a plastic nut that turns the assembly at the end of the handle (inside) it was worn. So when the lock turns the assembly does not. I am currently trying to see if I can get a replacement for it. It might come with the lock then its $60 . As always its a lousy 2cent plastic piece that is needed.

Hey Turbo, did you ever try PearlGT's strategy. I'm also having problems with my lock and don't know if i'm ready to commit to sawing the lock.
