93 esort hatchback wont start

hey all,

i have a 93 ford escort 1.9 with 125000 miles on it and has never given me a problem, until today. i was driving and when i came to a stop all the panel lights came on and the car just died. it cranks but wont turn over, i checked the fuel cut off switch and it was fine, i dont know what to do, please give me some help,

if its cranking but not starting,have you checked the timing belt?
