Rearview Mirror Compass stuck on North, what are 8 wires for?
here's one for ya'll, never knew what this wire is coming out the back of the mirror but it has 8 wires and a straight 8-line connector on the end. gone through all my books and couldn't find what it's for or where its suppose to plug into at and looked everywhere under my headliner. my problem is that my compass is stuck on North and i've tried recalibrating by driving around in circles and doing normal driving for a week but it still says north. when i change zones it changes the compass changes directions so i know it can display other directions. it's set in the right zone (6) and the temperature, onstar controls, and autodimming functions all work properly. i don't live near a lot of power lines, park next to them and there is no strong magnetic fields around. maybe the microprocessors just quit working or what or maybe those 8 mysterious wires have something to do with it. i have good connection to the wires in the 16-hole connector that plugs to the back of the mirror. not that this problem bothers me it's just one of those small things on the list to do.

When you calibrated it did you put it in calibration mode first? Hold down the button until "C" or "Cal" apprear (hold past the zone setting). Sometimes just driving in circles won't cure a lock-up problem. Good Luck.
