I like this place, and i a CAR Q

Way too many people have posted threads that in my opinion should have been kept personal through PM. threads titled "mod suck" or i don't care if i get band " should stop. OR AT LEAST be kept out of the 240sx file, those threads have nothing to do with 240, why are they here?

Anyway, i want to pick up an VLSD for my Girlfriend form pick a part but i have no clue on how to tell if it is a VLSD or just an open diff. (sometimes depending on how the car is staked, i might not be able to spin the tires. so a visual characteristic of an lsd might help)

tnxs!

(BTW it is for a 92 240 hatsh)

There is no way you can jack the rear part of the car up?

Re: I like this place, and i a CAR Q

i want to get a vlsd also, so i went with my uncle. He told me that i didnt need to buy one. All u have to do is get some gears or parts that go inside the lsd and locks both tires and voila u got urself a positive lsd! He's a mechanic so i trust his word. He;s willing to help me out, but im not sure where to get those parts. Anyway hope this could give u a different option AWDSR20 if ur not able to get a vlsd.

VLSDs are a decent low budget option. and if you get the JDM version (400$) you'll get the stronger axles / output shafts. as for telling what kind of diff it is there was a thread about that a month or so ago about thats probably on two pages or so back.

But if you plan on doing any serious drifting or tracking a Torsen or Clutch type should be next on the list. because Viscous Diffs have limited holding power and as AWD said go Numb after Hard driving.

Your Uncle was either talking about welding the spider Gears ( very bad idea. you would only be able to go straight and your inside tire would skip around hard corners.) or about making a Phantom type Diff which just jams the spider gears into the carrier. IMO another bad idea as its putting stress into the diff in a way that wasnt intended... But the DSM guys have had mixed results with them.
