Looking for a car in the 6-8k range...

I'm looking for something in the 6-8k range. The insurance cannot be high, and I'd prefer something with good (20 mpg or better) gas mileage.

I'd consider the 1994-1997 Honda Accord. The EX sedan will give you a 145 hp, 147 lb-ft 2.2-liter VTEC inline-four that will get you 23 city/29 highway mileage with the 4-speed automatic and 25 city/31 highway mileage with the 5-speed manual. It also fits perfectly into your price range. You should also consider the Toyota Camry, which offers a bit less power but a slightly more subtle ride.
If you want something a little nicer, go with the BMW 3 Series. A friend of mine has owned three of them, and they all lasted until 200,000 miles with zero problems. And you can pull about 23 mpg in the city with them.

Depending on your age, the BMW will murder you in insurance. I think the Honda Accord would a better choice.

Hmm...the BMW 3 would be nice, i dunno if my dad would stretch out the extra two grand though. It has to be 1998 or newer, maybe a '97 if it has low enough miles.

Edit: I'm 17 years old. And my dad doesn't like Japanese cars that much . We only have American (3 fords) and a European (Volvo).

That's unfortunate that your dad dislikes Japanese cars, because cars like the Accord and the Camry are the best daily drivers out there, and they still sell for $8,000 after seven years for a reason. If you have to get a Ford, though, just go with a Taurus. You can get newer ones cheaply because they usually don't last much longer than five years. Or beg your dad for a 3 Series.

well if bmw is out of reach and your dad dislikes japanese cars how about something like a volkswagen golf or jetta. i would agree with mex with the audi, but like the bmw if its 98 or above ur gonna be payin alot more. also with american cars if you want something with decent gas mileage it would have to be something like cav. or sunfire, horrible imo. too bad u couldnt get like a mustang or camaro with that kinda gas mileage

Eh, Camaros can get decent mileage if you don't drive like hell, thanks to a six-speed and a torquey V8.

I talked to him. He wont' go for europeans, since they cost a lot to repair. But he did say stuff like Honda/Toyota is fine. So I'm thinking Eclipse/Integra/Civic. I don't want a four door either. I'm just gonna hope that I can find an Integra GSR (one of my friends has one and it's sweet) or a Civic SI for that price.

Try a Accent, my father had one before he got a truck and it got excelent gas milage and it has the same 4-cylinder as in the tib, but the Accent is lighter so it goes and excelerates faster than the tib 4-cylinder, mention his car was a manual.
