90 4runner start problem continues.....
Over last 4-5 weeks, after driving, it will not start. Have replaced starter, ignition, coil, dist cap, battery cables, "positive" wire from battery post to fuse box on firewall. Will start cold or hot 5-6 times then nothing, the problem occurs. Example: drove to church today (6 miles) ; would not start 2.5 hours later. No clicking sound, dash lights work, power windows, radio, all but it will not make a sound when I try to start. After several hours of sitting, it will start. It's a 4 cyl, automatic, new motor/ trans (1-1/2 yr ago). Driving me nuts, $500. and climbing in last 30 days. HELP PLEASE

Could still be a bad starter. Try replacing the contacts in the solenoid. Cheap.

Re: 90 4runner start problem continues.....
Yeah, sometimes if you get a starter or other parts such as alternators and stuff from the auto parts store, they are not very good. Many times they don't do such a good job rebuilding them. It might take a few to find a good one (that's why many times they offer life time replacements).
Also, I had a Toyota Camry that was doing the same thing....................It was the neutral start switch. |
