Indicator Light ON - Don't have manual with me

Hey-

I have an indicator light that just came on and since I don't have my manual with me, I'm not sure what it is. Thought maybe someone here could help. It's on the speedometer portion of the dash. It has a picture of an odd-shaped box with what appears to be a lightning bolt with an arrow on the end going through it and underneath says the word "CHECK". Anyone know offhand what that is?

If it's yellow it sounds like the check engine light, what year?

It's a 2001. And it looks more orange than yellow.

Do you have an information center display that stated there was a problem with a certain system? Regardless, you'll have to get it scanned for codes.

CEL, don't worry, its a VW...
I know people who've had it on for 2 years straight with no adverse effects...
If yer worried, take it to yer local AAP and they'll scan it for you...
Garuntee you its something emissions oriented.
