1992 Buick Regal Stalling
Hello,
I have a 1992 Buick Regal, 3800 Motor. I have been having some troubles with a very intermediate stalling troubles. It never seems too happen first thing in the morning. I notice that after drive the car for awhile, stopping to go into a store somewhere, etc. That when I come back out the car will start but stall right away. If I give it gas just before it is about to stall it will start with no problem. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? or if anyone knew of anything I should try? Thank You, Mark |

I had a similar problem...I replaced the EGR valve and that fixed it. Does the OBD light come on? If so, what are the computer codes?

I went to a car site and asked a question about it and a GM mechanic said that he thought that that meant that the EGR valve was bad. Essentially I think it was sticking and got out of sync occasionally with the throttle. Teh car would then stall. I replaced the valve...pretty cheap, like $35 I think...you have to buy a gasket seperate though, doesn't come with the valve. Why, I don't know. That info came out of my scanner...auto x-ray scanner...OBD1 system I think) for a 94 Regal. Buy an EGR valve, they're pretty cheap and take about 10-20 minutes to install on a 3.8 liter. |

Re: Re: Re: Re: 1992 Buick Regal Stalling
well it could be an egr valve. but i like to blame the icm that bastard always tests good at the parts store but the real problem with them is they only fail under heat (like after a short trip) *hint* *hint* they run around 170 new or at a junkyard around 20 if anything at all( they never seem to know what it is so they generally make up some low ball figure for it or give it away unless you tell them what it is or how much it cost new) i love u-pull-it junkyards. get a list of interchangeable parts ( probably none there wanst any for my 91 regal limited, it had to be from the EXCACT car but on my car i changed coil packs and egr valve and fuel pump ( the mechanics fix-all) and alot of crap that was a waste of money for my brokea..... uhh brokeself. anyways good luck and take he coil packs and the black board under em ( the Ignition Control Module =icm) and have em test it for you but if the icm comes un ok just remember mine did a 6 months ago and i changed it on a hunch and no more problems with stalling again.
good luck man. |

Re: 1992 Buick Regal Stalling
OBD = on board Diagnostics? hahaha. I'll be danged if i can remember at this exact moment. (OBD light - Check engine or service engine soon light) (its orange)
But for codes....... If you cant/wont go to Autzone or pep boys or advanced auto (or w/e place will pull codes for free) Take a paper clip, and Under your dashbaord, on the drivers sider right (by the stereo) there will be a Mini Bread board (best way to describe it). There will be 2 rows of Holes, were things could get plugged into. I Think it is the bottom right 2, that you put the paper clip into. Then turn your ignition on (so you can see all of the idiot lights on your dash (dont start the car). The Service egnine soon (or Check Engine) Light will blink once, then twice. Then Once, and Twice. This measn that the ecm is operating correctly. Then It will flash X number of times, with a slight pause. Count up the times it flashed and write it down if needbe. Then it will flash X number of times. It will repeat the code a second time. Then With the 2 numbers, Then post it on here, and someone is bound to KNow how to help you from there. ( eg 4 flashes =4, and then a 1 would equal 41) Bill p.s. Did anyone see when this was posted? Lmao...."06-06-2004, 05:28 PM" |
