I have a 1997 firebird, 3.8 w/ approx. 78,000 miles. My headlights have started to come on with the key being turned to the run position while the headlight switch is still in the off position. I have already replaced the right gear motor from plastic to brass and the left one works properly at this time. Everyonce in a while I would have this problem before replacing the gear. After replacement approx. 2 months ago, I have had no problems till now. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on with my headlights???

Re: headlights come up with key on/switch off
I have a 1997 Firebird with a 3.8 also and that just started to happen with the headlights on mine today. Have you found a solution? If so, please let me know. It's real irritating. Thanks.

I know what you mean about irratating, but soon after posting my message. My headlights began working correctly. So I still have no idea what was going on. If anybody else has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: headlights come up with key on/switch off
prolly some sort of grounding issue... my buddy had a similar problem in his 87 and it was related to a ground wire that was broke off.
