van lowering, any sugg's

Have a 94 astro. Would like it lowered about 2-3 in. but with enough spring to tow approx. 1500lbs. What kind of ground clearance probs can I expect w/ spindles vs springs(front)? Would like dearched steel springs in rear but costly($240/ea.) are airbags cheaper(stronger) option? What is the shortest tire feasible for towing?

People make lowered spindle mounts (you have to buy the whole spindles). I believe they make kits to lower the rear as well - I'm not sure if you use lowering blocks or mount the leaf spring on the other side of the axle.
