best exhaust solution

im gettin a 97-99 gsx and was wonderin which exhaust route is better. buyin a apexi ni catback and downpipe for like 800 or building my own. ive seen dyno results for the apexi ni and it made lots of power in the top end especially after 5500 rpms. this is good becuase gsx need all top end power they can get. basically i need to kno what makes top end power in exhausts. would a 3.5 inch systme be better than a 3.0 inch for top end power?

Re: best exhaust solution

3 inch is plenty. The gain is great on any 3'' turboback, and I doubt if the expensive brand names have anything over a good custom job.

I live in CT, too. I have the Greddy Evo2. I haven't been told anything about it, yet. But I live in Waterbury. Where everyone's car sound like sh*t.

Re: best exhaust solution

i agree, don't go higher than 3", or your'll lose to much of your low end torque. 3 is perfect for our car

Re: best exhaust solution

alright big question for the smart people. i have a 7bolt and when it quits i wanan go to 6bolt. if i did the swap would an apexi n1 downpipe bolt up to the 6 bolt o2 housing. basically are the o2housings on the 6bolts same as 7bolts. cuz i want to do my exhaust now and then have it be compatable with my 6bolt. also do exhaust shops make downpipes or would i have to buy an apexi n1 downpipe and have them do the rest?

Re: best exhaust solution

You still use the same housing and turbo mani, it's just a different block (I believe). So yes, you would be able to bolt it right up with no problems. You'll need some flex pipe for the DP so I don't know if I'd go with an exhaust shop DP. You can get a full turbo back apex N1 for 600 bucks. great sound, amazing performance and not too bad of a price. well worth the investment since you plan on keeping the car for multiple motors. That would be my suggestion.

6 bolt in a 2g gsx... with a n1 downpipe and a evo o2 mani you'll have a bit of a prob... xfer case to close to the angle for the dp and you have to mash it in a lil.
