SR20DET Engine Swap Difficulty?

Hey, if you guys would ehlp me out, I would really appreciate it. I was wondering if any of you have ever done an SR20 swap into your 89-93 240SX. I am getting ready to do one, and I am very mechanical, but I just want to know if you guys think I should do it myslef, or take it to have it done? I will probably buy the whole front clip which is $1900 without shipping. Please let me know of your good or bad experiences with the swap and what you think I should do about installing it. Thnaks a lot. It is greatly appreciated. Later.

Well if you have all the tools, including an engine hoist, you might e able to pull it off. Also if you have an 89-90 there's some wiring complications with the gauge cluster, I'm not sure what the problem is though, iI think it's the tach that's not compatible or something.

You're also going to need power steering lines and resivoir from a 91-94. The FAQ in this forum and the people at Heavy Throttle will be glad to help you out on this.

Re: SR20DET Engine Swap Difficulty?

poor blokes in america.

our[ozzie], 240's (180sx's) come stock with the sr's and ca's.
just felt like boasting

and even though the sr20 is an exceptional motor, GSR2NR94 have you considered dropping in a rb20det. They got some balls and do really well dropped in a 240.

For the swap, I'd recommend having a shop/good mechanic do it for you as the wiring is an absolute beyatch. Heck I know mechanics that have to call in electrion's for this stage. Once the engine's in and wired up you should be able to do the rest [eg, fmic, bleed valve, exhaust, extracors, etc].

p.s: I see no 180sx forum so I geuss I'll chill here, in which case Hi to all!.

It sounds like you are not a certified proffesional, and so if something goes wrong I doubt the warranty will work. So you should take it to a shop.

Well said!

/sarcasm

A person who works their ass off/saves their money for something they want, deserves a nice car as much as someone who could have done all that work themselves. You think money just falls from the sky?

There's a reason why the KA vs. SR threads have disappeared. Don't bring up this stupid ass argument again.

Just being nitpicky, but I hope you know that only the 240sx Hatchback is the American version of the 180sx. There are plenty of legal swaps that you could do to a 240... American V8s, (RB26DETT... unconfirmed, but if Motorex can legalize a GTR, the engine shouldn't be a problem)

-------------------------------------------------------------

Back on topic, Jspec already mentioned Heavy Throttle. If you go there, they have a complete write-up on everything you need to do for a SR Swap.

If you have the time, the tools, and the mechanical inclination or you're just feeling up to the challenge, go for it. If you have the money to burn, why not let other people who can probably do this better than you could, do it?

Positives of doing it yourself:
You'll know everything about your own car, so if something goes wrong, you can fix it.
You'll save lots of money for emergency use or a little something extra.

Negatives of doing it yourself:
If you fuck up your own shit, it's out of your wallet.

I've heard that most of the price in labor is wiring the harness, so if you could do that yourself if you opt to have a shop put in the engine, you'll save even more money.

Re: SR20DET Engine Swap Difficulty?

this has nothing to do with money, it has to do with loyalty. if you go out and rent intial d and see an 180 wit an sr, and spend you money to go buy a 240 and have sum one put an sr in it, so you can so your a drifter, i have no respect for you.

The Initial D player who reads this:

Oh my god! Some guy on a forum has no respect for me! My life has no meaning! I better do exactly what he thinks is right so I can be accepted into his little world! Please, oh, please, i_need_a_240hb, forgive me for my mistakes! I'll pray to you, make you my god, just please respect me!!!!

If you have the money to have the engine installed then do it, then yiou won't have to worry everytime you drive it about something going wrong. If you can't afford it then you can try it yourself, but it's the person's choice and I doubt they'll answer like our little friend up here. ^^^^^
