vortec heads

Can someone tell me if there is a difference in vortec heads between the ones with 1.94 intake valve and the ones with smaller intake valves? Other than the valve sizes and combustion chamber size? (SBC).
I'm considering rebuilding a 283 and I'm wondering if the smaller valves might be better for the smaller displacement.

Re: vortec heads

i thought the vortecs only come with 1.94 valves. or are you talking about like 1.94, 1.50's. thats what size valves are on a single pair of vortec heads, i believe. the 1.94 is the intake valve size and the 1.50 is the exhaust size. on one pain of heads there are 8 valves that are 1.94, and 8 valves that are 1.50. 4 on each head. dont take this in a bad way cuz i ha e to asume you dont know anything so that i explane it that way incase you dont, but if you do already know this dont think im trying to make you feel like an idiot cuz im not. i just dont know how much knowledge you ahve so i have to asume not much otherwise if i asume you have alot and dont say much you wont get it. oh and if you mean some other valve size, what size are you talking about?

Sorry for not being clear. I know plenty about older school heads. I have a '58 chevy street truck that is 13 years since I built it. It's a 327 with camel hump fuelies and flat top pistons 10:1 compression. It's too much for pump gas and so I'm going thru the whole truck now and I heard somewhere that vortecs for a 305 had smaller intake valves and thought they might be good on a 283 but now I understand that the more modern '96+ vortecs are all .194 intakes. Perhaps I'll just use them on my 327 with some 9:1 pistons. That should work ya think? See I'm just trying to build something sensable,,maybe improve the gas mileage.
I need to figure out how to have a picture with my posts.
