buying first car
ok i know a guy who can get me a 91 crx si for 800 to 1000 dollars (man got connections out of the ying yang he is retired green barret) and i was wondering should i get a zc engine or a b16a1 which would be better, the car would be a 5 speed also would the tranny work on both engines in my car our would i have to buy a diffrent tranny for it and i can get a 93 intergra for around that same price and if i go for the intergra should i keep the stock engine or get the b16a1 in that to. just need some info before i go spending my money.
holla at ya boy

Re: buying first car
build the car to handle the motor first. Mobody likes a fast car that drives shitty.

Re: buying first car
ok the 90-93 integs have a stock b18 in them why go smaller. as for the rex i would do a b16 or b18 swap for the youd need engine and tranny and mounts and linkages.or you could do sohc vtec engine like d16z6 or y8 with no mods to car itself.

Re: buying first car
On the CRX note, it is all about how much money you want to spend. ZC being the easiest swap of the 2 mentioned.
On the integra note, I disagree with ^^recycle me. It is not about going smaller, the b16 has vtec. Hell my friend had a '92 gsr and he blew the engine. He put a jap spec b16a in it and was busting everybody's @ss out here. Wrong......90-93 integras had b17 and b18s in them

The USDM only came with the non-VTEC B18. And the GS-R version came with the B17 (VTEC). *Edit - ya beat me to it T-Mo |

Hoestly dude, u prolly wont get this responce from anyone else... But honestly I wouldnt drop money a on swap or anything like that being your first car... If you are like 16 or so and just got a license Id get a cheap stock car too beat around a bit... Cuz u will probably have atleast a few mishaps your first few years of driving... Its best to get a feel for the road, get used to the traffic signs and how traffic works, then worry about hooking it up to go fast... Thats just my
anyways... And a CRX Si is a quick car stock anyways... But if u do swap its all a matter of preference and money... ZC swap is theoretically easy, and cheap... And a B16 is a bit more expensive and abit more work... But if have the know how and money, id go with the B16...As for the Integra, I've never driven one so I dunno how fast they are... But Im sure it depends on what trim level it is as too whether or not u should swap engine in it... |

Re: buying first car
i know how to drive i have been driving sence i was 13, i have actully took my mom car out for a joy ride rode by a couple of cops and did'nt get pulled over and they are strict down here, and i passed drivers ed with a 98. so i am a pretty good driver but i know i need more experience, but if i get this crx i will have this car untill i finish college so thats why i asked for a swap so i can take it out on the weekends to the track.
and i am not trying to be cocky or an asshole and silent chamber do u mean like get a new aftermarket suspension on it. and one more thing i won't plan on turbo charging it or nitrous for a while i will just mainly have h/i/e on it then once i get more experienced turbo charge the engine. holla back

I wasnt saying u cant drive... Im simply saying theres a big difference between a 1800lb car with a 168HP engine, and what your mom may drive... Noone wants to have an accident, and noone certainly knows if/when its gonna happen, good driver or not... Id rather spend $1000 on a decent car and drive it around for a few years too get the feel for it before swapping... Its much easier to lose control of a high powered car, specially a light weight one... Not trying to sound like a parent or anything... Im just sharing my point of view as a 22 year old looking back at my driving history... My cousin just got a car about 3 months ago, he got his liscence about a year ago, hes been driving like u, since he was young... Well good thing he got a beater to begin with, he totalled it last week, on his birthday no less... Luckily he and the other guy werent hurt... The guy was turning left, my cuz didnt see, and wham smacked into the rear end of em... And no u dont sound like your being cocky... Most guys, my cousin even when I was tellin him the same thing his asnwer was 'that'll never happen too me', atleast u admit u may need more experience too handle that much power... Its his 'never happen to me' attitude is what got him into this mess... Remember it can happen to anyone... Either way u choose too go I wish u luck! Keep us posted! And be safe... Roads not a safe place these days... I was almost killed by a drunk driver about a year ago... Its that much worse when u have an accident and u werent at fault... When your at fault u can just learn from whatever u did, and not do it again, when its not your fault your always watching your back... In may case anyways...

Re: buying first car
^^^
As much as I like the import scene alot of people that are part of it have managed to give it a bad name because of careless driving and thinking "it wont ever happen to me", but thats a differnt story. I would to the normal stuff to make the car ride and drive better before throwing in a more powerfull motor. A good set of strut bars (front/rear, upper/lower) Will stiffen up the chassis alot, maby even some aftermarket springs to make it corner better. Safty is an important factor when upgrading expecially on motors. I'm not saying go out and put in a full roll cage but you get the idea.

Re: buying first car
Better breaks aswell... Probably the best safety u can add with a more powerfull engine...

Re: buying first car
thanks for the really good feedback from every one i am going to get the crx and like exempt said i will wait till i get more experienced and then buy the motor so i will just do what silentchamber said and build the chassis and suspension up on it then swap out the engine. so i will let u know how it is soon.
holla

Re: buying first car
rear discs from a 90-93 teg will bolt right on when you get ready to upgrade brakes.
