Thumbs up Look here for 2002 factory keypad code

I looked for hours for factory keypad code and finally found it and decided to forward it to others who have been told to take it to the dealership and "PAY" to get it.

On the passenger side between the rear door and rear side glass, remove the panel on the upright post ( it pops off). Behind this panel is another panel that you must also pull back. Once you pull it back you should see the computer, which is located down toward the floor. On the computer is the sticker with the large print 5 digit factory door code.
Once you have the code you can follow the manual for entering your own code.

Hope this helps and saves you some time and money.

Check with a locksmith for the PATS key. Dealers charge $75.00+ for the key. Locksmith is approx. $40.00 I don't believe that aftermarket keys are available (ie. TruValue Hardware etc.).

For the PATS keys, eBay is the way to go. Paid just over $20 bucks for 2 and as long as you have 2 currently working keys you can program them yourself. Just have to have them cut locally. Did so on my '02 and took about a minute to program both keys.

Oh, and if anyone has a good tip on exactly how to pop-off the first panel/trim I'd like to know. I tried and didn't want to break anything so didn't put too much force on it. No luck...anyone by chance can take a digital photo of the how this panel is attached?

QUESTION:

Why would you have to have 2 working keys? I only have one key period.

On the first panel, you can pull the rubber door molding back and see 2 clips. Pull those clips out and panel should pull away. If this dont work let me know and I'll send you more info.

The procedure to program the car to accept new keys (unprogrammed but cut) requires that you have two currently working (programmed) keys, according to the manual. I've heard that some people were able to fool the car with only one key and inserting it twice but can't confirm.

The procedure goes: Insert the first already programmed key in the ignition and turn it to position 3 (ON) and leave for 1 second. Turn back to 1 (LOCK) and remove. Within 10 seconds, insert the 2nd already programmed key and turn to position 3 (ON), again maintain for 1 second but not more than 10. Turn back to 1 (LOCK) and remove. Insert the unprogrammed key within 20 seconds and turn to 3 (ON) and hold for at least 1 second. Turn back to 1 (LOCK) and that's it. The new key should now be programmed. To do more, start the procedure over with another unprogrammed key.

Ok, never removed the molding. Will try that tonight, thanks! If I have a problem you'll be hearing from me thanks again.
