2000 chevy blazer spark plug removal

I am trying to remove the second spark plug on the drivers side... I can get a socket on it but there is not enough room to get the ratchet on it... the steering linkage is in the way... any help would be great...

first, patience and take care not to break the plug off.

there are a couple different ways, however it can depend on the brand of tools. some rachets have thinner heads than others.

some (myself included) have gotten it with just the plug socket and a ratchet. while others have managed to get it with a universal joint socket.

some have stated going in from the wheel well helped.

if you happen to haven a plug socket that has the six point hex on the end, you can use the appropriate sized combination wrench on the end.


finally the steering shaft can be disconnected, but you have to disconnect the battery and possibly disconnect the air bag under the dash (my book tells me to do so for my 95 S-10) as well as make sure you reconnect it in the right spot or your steering wheel will end up off center. its keyed with a flat spot, but it can still end up a couple or more spines off.

I just changed out my plugs today in attempt to get my truck running, that one is a pain, i used a 3/8 inch plug socket then got one of those swivel head adjusters, it pivots where it attaches to the ratchet, it was still a little hard but it worked, hope it helped, you can find the swivel adapter at any auto parts stores.

yeah changing spark plugs on a chevy engine is a pain!! I gave up on mine and just paid $20 for a professional to do it

Unitool has a tool called a "wobble extention" (other people have it as well) Its basically an standard extention available in assorted lengths that the socket end of it is not 100% square. It has the upper and lower corners of it knocked off. I find it awsone when I am changing the plugs on my 97 blazer. I do it by going in through the Wheel well. to get the rear most one I crank the wheel all the way to the right just to make it easier to get the wrench in there. Put the socket on first then click in the extention and you should be good to go. the extention allows for about a 20 deg deflection of the extention in the socket. Not as much as a universal joint but you can get alot more torque on the wrench.
